Happy TUNEBACK TUESDAY!! Today I’m tuning it back to a great, upbeat song from the early ’90s… “Finally” by CeCe Peniston.

ORIGINAL RELEASE DATE: September 21, 1991

TRIVIA: Peniston was 21 years old when her debut single “Finally” was released. The song burst on to the US club scene in the fall of 1991, where it became an instant dance anthem peaking, in October, at the top of the Billboard Hot Dance Music/Club Play for two weeks, while achieving a respectful starting position (at No.#29) overseas.

BONUS VIDEO: Whenever I hear this song, I immediately picture this classic scene from the Australian film, “The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert”. If you haven’t seen this movie, check it out! ENJOY!!

See you next Tuesday!!

Jingles: “Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner”

Happy TUNEBACK TUESDAY! For this week’s TuneBack I’m doing something a little different. Today I’m tuning back to some of those fun commercial jingles from yesterday… and the theme is “Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner”.

BREAKFAST: For breakfast, it was almost always sugary cereals for me. It was the early ’80s so there was a huge selection of this stuff (usually tied to a movie or TV show). One that I loved was Mr. T Cereal. It was pretty much exactly like Cap’n Crunch, except they were shaped like “T”‘s. I don’t remember this commercial at all, but it’s too “cool” not to share.

LUNCH: One of my frequently enjoyed lunchtime meals was McCain Pizza Pockets. Just toss them in the microwave, nuke them for 90 seconds and enjoy!! Be careful when biting into them though, as the insides would often burn the roof of your mouth. “No Leaks. No Mess. Just Pizza Perfection”

DINNER: Pasta was a typical kids dinner and this jingle is one that has stayed in my head since it first came out… the classic ItalPasta. The song is very catchy, and the commercial barely shows the pasta. It’s mostly a bunch of attractive people on the beach playing volleyball and being sprayed with water.

BONUS VIDEO: McCain’s Drinking Box jingle was another one of those that was always stuck in my head as a kid. Kinda make’s me want one right now, actually.

See you next Tuesday!!

If You Want To Sing Out, Sing Out

Happy TUNEBACK TUESDAY!! I was inspired for this week’s TuneBack when I was visiting my childhood summer camp a couple days ago. I first went as a camper in 1992, was a staff member from 1995-2006 and I’m still involved with the camp today. While visiting, I was remembering all of the music that I first heard while up at camp. One day (when I was on staff), I was introduced to the movie “Harold and Maude” by the camp co-director, Vicki. She told me that I absolutely HAD to see this movie. She was right. I fell in love with the movie and the wonderful songs (all written and sung by Cat Stevens). There isn’t an official music video for the film’s theme song, “If You Want To Sing Out, Sing Out”, but the trailer for “Harold and Maude” features the entire song. If you haven’t seen this movie, I highly recommend watching it. It’s a beautiful film about a 20-year-old boy obsessed with death who befriends an 80-year-old woman obsessed with life.

TRIVIA: “If You Want To Sing Out, Sing Out” was composed specifically for the movie. The song was unavailable on record until appearing on a 1984 compilation. An official soundtrack album wasn’t released until 2007.

See you next Tuesday!!
