Sisters Are Doin’ It For Themselves

Happy TUNEBACK TUESDAY!! I am blessed to have so many incredible women in my life. They have taught me so much and I’m the man I am today because of them. In honour of all the women in my life, I’m tuning it back to “Sisters Are Doin’ It For Themselves” by Eurythmics and Aretha Franklin.

ORIGINAL RELEASE DATE: October 1985

TRIVIA: The song is considered to be a modern feminist anthem and was written by Eurythmics’ Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart. They had originally intended to duet with Tina Turner, who was unavailable at the time and so the duo approached Aretha Franklin instead.

The track also features three of Tom Petty’s Heartbreakers; Stan Lynch on drums, Benmont Tench on organ, and Mike Campbell on lead guitar, plus session bassist Nathan East.

See you next Tuesday!
